Once again I have ramped up my news skills to contribute to the sound of the Fox News Channel to create three new fresh station ID’s. This is not as small of a task as it might sound since the 3 pieces they called for were: Dramatic, Acoustic, and Orchestral. What does that mean exactly? That is a good question I ask myself when I compose these pieces. It is actually entirely left up to me to chose what that means. For the acoustic, I did a ‘slap the guitar’ approach and that vibe was a little too over the top for them so I ended up ‘dumbing it down’ to a cool acoustic vibe that is probably more the style their audience could handle. The dramatic vibe they liked right away as I made it a big percussive, in your face, ramping kind of ID. They liked it and wanted even MORE toms ala ‘Keith Moon’ if you can believe it! Anyway, I gave them that and they were happy! And the final Orchestral ID was more of a sweeping news sound – poignant and soaring – they liked that too.
